April 2022, nudge, the global financial health platform, has achieved Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2 Level AA compliance, strengthening its commitment to making financial health support accessible to employees of all abilities.
Developed in partnership with the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), nudge’s accessibility program makes nudge more accessible to people with a range of needs, including blindness and low vision, limited mobility, learning disabilities, and cognitive limitations.
The achievement follows ongoing collaboration between nudge and RNIB’s Accessibility Team, with digital accessibility embedded into nudge’s product design and user experience.
For employers supporting diverse workforces, digital accessibility is essential to helping more employees access impartial, personalized financial guidance.
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) provide internationally recognized recommendations for making web content more accessible to people with disabilities.
Meeting the WCAG 2.2 Level AA standard means considering accessibility throughout the digital experience, including screen reader and keyboard accessibility, accessible multimedia, predictable navigation, and experiences that support people with different cognitive and accessibility needs.
For nudge, however, meeting the standard is about more than compliance. It supports a broader ambition to remove barriers that can prevent people from accessing, understanding, and acting on financial education.
nudge has worked closely with RNIB to test and improve the accessibility of its financial health platform, drawing on the organization’s expertise and the lived experiences of blind and partially sighted people.
Louise Wells, Rewards and Pensions Lead at RNIB, said:
“nudge has worked in partnership with our Reward Team to launch the platform and collaborated with RNIB’s Accessibility Team to ensure that financial guidance is fully accessible for blind and partially sighted users.”
The partnership has helped nudge embed accessibility considerations into the way its technology and services are developed, rather than treating accessibility as an addition to the finished product.
As nudge continues to develop its global financial health platform, accessibility will remain a core part of product development.
New personalized journeys, tools, and digital experiences will continue to be considered through an accessibility lens, helping ensure that innovation does not introduce new barriers for the people it is intended to support.
For employers, that means being able to provide financial health support that can reach more of their workforce while supporting their wider accessibility and inclusion commitments.
Because financial health support only works at scale when everyone has the opportunity to access it.
